At Oak Hills Church, we strive to partner with you to build a spiritual foundation from the beginning of your parenting journey through your child’s high school graduation. We have developed eight Milestones to walk your family through the path of spiritual development. Our Family Life programming works to support and encourage your family in every stage of life.
Milestone 1: Child Dedication
We believe Christian parents are called to establish a faith foundation for their child until that child can make their own choice regarding a relationship with Jesus. Through Child Dedication – which is similar to infant baptism in many Christian traditions – parents make a vow to raise their child in God’s ways. Child Dedication is offered quarterly during weekend services, or you may opt for a private dedication following one of our Sunday services. Sign up here. Questions? Request more info here.
Milestone 2: Introduction
The preschool years are the perfect time to begin forming and understanding some of the most basic spiritual truths. From ages 2-5, we teach – and encourage parents to teach – preschoolers the following truths: “God Made Me,” “God Loves Me”, and “Jesus Wants to be My Friend Forever.”
Milestone 3: Salvation
The elementary years are often a time for children to come to the decision to follow God and declare their personal faith that Christ died for their sins and was raised from the dead. Since children walk through the Bible from Kindergarten through 5th grade in Elements, the concept of Salvation often becomes clear during that time. When a child expresses interest in salvation during Elements, parents are given a helpful packet to aid them in deciding if their child is ready and how to walk into salvation.
Milestone 4: Baptism and Communion
Once a child has made the important decision to follow Christ, we encourage them to take the next steps in their faith through water baptism and communion. Both are set apart for the church body to remember Christ’s death and resurrection and to celebrate the new life we have in Him. We offer a Baptism Celebration event each year for children ages 7 and older as well as communion during our all-family services. Request more info here.
Milestone 5: Core Beliefs
Many of us have heard of or experienced Catechism or Confirmation. Core Beliefs is a one time class offered to 5th graders each spring. This class acts as a bridge between elementary and middle school and teaches the core beliefs of Oak Hills Church. Request more info here.
Milestone 6: Freshman Year
Stepping into high school brings a lot of change and sometimes uncertainty. Along with our weekly student ministry service and small groups, we want to especially come alongside freshman for twice-a-year gatherings to help each student move into the calling and purpose God has for them. Request more info here.
Milestone 7: Missions Trip
We strive to provide missions trip opportunities for students in 10th grade and up in order to help them develop a greater world view while they serve, gain insight and support the work being done through local and global ministries.
Milestone 8: Senior Year
Senior Year can be a tricky time – with one foot in high school and the other in adulthood. Once a month, seniors meet to learn about stepping into life after high school: dealing with college, church, work, finances, and faith. Request more info here.
