The path to full devotion to Christ is a deliberate and intentional journey. To go from my ways of thinking and acting to God's requires a major adjustment. Spiritual transformation does not just happen, no matter how badly we want it to. We must recognize the process and implement spiritual disciplines if we are going to be successful.
Prayer and Fasting are two disciplines which are essential to and inseparable from the new life brought by Jesus Christ. Prayer is to engage in conversing and communicating with God. The Bible tells us to, "Be constant in prayer." We understand this to be so fundamental that the church of God can be defined as those who "in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ." Fasting is to abstain in a significant way from food. It promotes temperance and self-control and can lead to spiritual breakthroughs that will never happen in any other way.
Oak Hills Church desires to cultivate a great understanding of the freedom prayer and fasting offers to every believer. This comes first by understanding what God's Word teaches us about prayer and fasting and then by putting them into practice.
Gathering for prayer together is how we as a community of believers can share in communion with God. We get to develop relationships with one another at a very authentic level as we listen in on, agree with, and are encouraged by each other's prayers.
The fast begins at noon on Friday to noon on Saturday. We will gather together for prayer, teaching and worship on Friday from 7pm - 8:30pm.
