We believe that small groups are the place where sustained life change occurs. Small groups are where real life and real issues are discussed. This is the environment where we celebrate the successes and good times of life, as well as comfort one another during the tough and disappointing times. It is a place to be encouraged, equipped, and challenged to become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a small group?
A small group is a gathering of people (typically 5-12 people) who meet together regularly for fellowship and discipleship. Some of our groups are typical Bible studies or book study groups. Others are focused on outreach and missions. Our interest-based groups create environments for people to do life together within the context of shared activities—hobbies, sports, arts, etc. All of our groups exist to help people connect to God and connect to others.
Where do I start?
We encourage everyone to begin his or her journey with Starting Point.
What is Oak Hills Institute?
Oak Hills Institute is a unique type of small group that contains our core discipleship experiences. These are the groups and classes that we believe every Oak Hills Church attendee should participate in at some point during their time at OHC.
We encourage every Oak Hills Church attendee to begin with Starting Point. Next is Journey, a 12-week small group that introduces the four dimensions of discipleship. From there, you are invited to Equip
Why do your groups meet in semesters?
At Oak Hills Church small groups meet on a semester system to harness the momentum created by the ebbs and flows of life and to take advantage of the opportunities these rhythms create. We have found that implementing a semester system is helpful for a number of reasons. One, semester-based groups allow easy entry and exit points; you don’t have to commit to a group for the rest of your life! Two, people are able to move more easily from one group to another as their spiritual needs and interests change. Three, it encourages more involvement by allowing people to experiment with leading a group for a short period of time.
Our semesters are scheduled as follows:
Winter: February–April
Summer: June–July
Fall: September–December
How can I get more information about a group??Is there a listing of the available groups?
Each semester, we publish a Small Group Directory that lists all of the small groups and ministry opportunities for that semester. You can download the directory or pick up a copy at the Resource Table in our lobby.
How do I join a group?
Use the group contact information in the directory to contact the small group leader directly, or just show up at the group!
How can I become a small group leader?
Jesus' command to "go make disciples" it a mandate for all believers, and we believe that everyone is a potential small group leader. We encourage believers to find ways to use their gifts, passions, and interests as vehicles to build disciple-making relationships. The process for becoming an OHC small group leader is as follows:
Complete Starting Point, Journey, & Equip
Complete a small group leader application.
Sign the OHC Leadership Covenant.
